Ripe spotted bananas on a cutting board in a cluttered kitchen with dishes and papers scattered

We all have things that we don’t want to do; the laundry, mopping, wiping our children after they use the bathroom, and so on. Seriously, I could go on forever with a list of all the things I just don’t feel like doing. But today? I don’t feel like writing a blog post.

Why, you may ask, is that? It could be because I haven’t slept much in the past few days. Or it could be the fact that every day is so busy it feels like somehow we crammed three days into one. But I think that the reality is that with all the tensions going on right now, I just don’t feel like finding something funny to comment on.

I started writing my blog partly as a hobby and a way to keep myself accountable for a consistent writing routine. But I also started this blog to be a bright spot on the internet. A place I can turn to when social media gets overwhelming. When the hate is too much and my brain feels tired from the snappy comments and overstimulating content competing for my attention.

Lately there has been so much going on in both the world and my personal life that I just don’t feel like writing a blog today. Sure, I could spend my time doing better things like folding the laundry or turning the brown bananas on the counter into sugar free muffins for my kids to eat. (They think that I am letting them eat snacks when really I am tricking them into eating their daily serving of fruits and vegetables.) Maybe I could even put away the suitcase of winter clothes that I brought up from the machsan back in September. Or I could fix the hole in my daughter’s dress that she may or may not have grown out of. I could fix her shabbat shoe bow that keeps getting undone.

I’m getting a bit off track here, aren’t I? All of this to say that there are a million things that I could be doing instead of writing a blog post about not wanting to write a blog post. Is that a tongue twister? It felt like one.

So why am I writing about not wanting to write? (and seriously, how many times am I going to mention that in this post?!) Because sometimes waiting is tiring too. Waiting to hear if there will be school or if flights will be canceled. Not that I plan on flying anywhere, but it does affect my choice in babysitter, so it’s good to be in the know. We still haven’t heard about Gan placements for next year. It’s not really a big deal because we’ll probably just be in the same place as this year, but there is comfort in knowing for sure.

We just settled back into a routine; school was in session, camp signups had gone out, snacks were purchased and plans were set for our daughter’s gan end-of-the-year party. And yet, the news says that the security cabinet is meeting again and everything feels so up in the air. So I guess it’s hard for me to find something funny to write about today.

But maybe writing a blog post about not writing a blog post counts.

Right?
